Last Thursday, Barron Collier got the win against Bonita Springs by a conclusive 16-1. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by nine runs or more this season.
Leena Forbes looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those hits were her first of the season.
On the hitting side, Gianna Frino was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Jordyn Kinn was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Meanwhile, Gulf Coast had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They came out on top against the Raiders by a score of 8-5.
Taylor Stalling made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Stalling was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Gulf Coast got a big performance out of Nelinka Lambcke, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Hannah Rearden, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Gulf Coast kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.
Gulf Coast pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Barron Collier, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.
Barron Collier might still be hurting after the 19-5 defeat they got from Gulf Coast in their previous matchup last Friday. Can Barron Collier avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
