Volleyball Recap: Sangre de Cristo Comes Up Short

Sangre de Cristo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Las Animas Trojans. The Thunderbirds were not able to make up for their loss to the Trojans from their previous meeting back in August of 2024.

Sangre de Cristo started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-16, 25-7, 25-22.

Belle Bieriger paced Sangre de Cristo's offense, picking up ten kills. Bieriger got some help from Desarey Ojeda and her 11 assists. Finally, Bieriger was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high four blocks.

Bree Tyler was a one-woman wrecking crew For Las Animas. as she had 17 digs and three aces.

Sangre de Cristo's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Las Animas, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Sangre de Cristo wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 2-1 win against Walsenburg on the 30th. As for Las Animas, they have also already played their next game, a 3-0 loss against Rye on the 2nd.
