Baseball Game Preview: Milan Indians vs. Southwestern Rebels

Milan hasn't had much luck against Southwestern recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Indians will head out on the road to challenge the Rebels at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Milan came out on top against Jac-Cen-Del on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fifth inning. The Indians took their contest against the Eagles 7-4. The game was the first time the Indians have beaten the Eagles on their field since April 28, 2022.

The team relied heavily on Noah Morgan, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, Southwestern hadn't done well against Salem recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Rebels narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Lions 5-3. Five seems to be a good number for the Rebels as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Southwestern saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Cook, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Cook has launched this season.

Milan is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Southwestern, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7.

Milan might still be hurting after the 12-5 defeat they got from Southwestern when the teams last played back in April. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
