Softball Recap: Chester Now 7-2 over Last Nine Games

Chester lost to Ste. Genevieve back in April of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Yellowjackets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Dragons.

Lexie Mott was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Hasemeyer, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Camryn Wolff, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Chester has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Ste. Genevieve, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chester will welcome Carlyle at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians/Lady Indians have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Ste. Genevieve, they will be playing at home against Scott City at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dragons are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
