Softball Recap: Horizon Honors Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

While Horizon Honors put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Arizona Lutheran Academy. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 21-0 margin over the Coyotes. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Coyotes: they've now won five in a row.

Danica Gutierrez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Horizon Honors let Tatum Spindler and Annie Jimenez run wild. Spindler went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Jimenez got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Spindler a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nicole Topete, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Horizon Honors kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 13 consecutive matches.

Horizon Honors pushed their record up to 17-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 15 runs. As for Arizona Lutheran Academy, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Coming up, Horizon Honors will host Phoenix Country Day at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Arizona Lutheran Academy, they will take on Santa Cruz Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Coyotes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dust Devils have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
