Softball Game Preview: Edon Bombers vs. Hilltop Cadets

Edon is 0-10 against Hilltop since April of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. The Bombers will square off against the Cadets at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Edon saw some tournament action on Friday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over North Central. The victory continues a trend for the Bombers in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won five in a row.

Alexis Breier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Madison Ogden, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hilltop ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Blissfield 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cadets have posted since April 20th.

Sophia Crossgrove was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.

Edon's record now sits at 9-14. As for Hilltop, their record is now 21-4.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Edon hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Hilltop struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Edon might still be hurting after the 15-1 loss they got from Hilltop when the teams last played on Tuesday. Can the Bombers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
