Basketball Recap: Carolina Day's Run of Nine Straight Victories Now Over

It was a good run, but Carolina Day unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 71-47 to the Asheville Christian Academy Lions. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-37 back in November of 2024.

Carolina Day lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Layla Hunter, who went 7 of 14 en route to 19 points along with six boards and five assists. The matchup was Hunter's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Amy Rhymer, who posted 14 points and six assists.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Asheville Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sara Larios, who went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc on her way to 30 points in addition to eight steals and five assists. That's the most points Larios has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Ansley Fuchs, who went 6 of 10 en route to 14 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.

Carolina Day's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-3. As for Asheville Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season.

Carolina Day will host Rabun Gap-Nacoochee at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Carolina Day is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season. As for Asheville Christian Academy, they will head out to square off against SouthLake Christian Academy at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
