Softball Recap: Washington Huskies vs. Newark Memorial Cougars

Washington had lost eight straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-14 to make it nine. They lost 16-0 to the Newark Memorial Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-4 back in April.

As for Newark Memorial, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Considering they have won ten games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Newark Memorial's part, Ariana Romo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Romo was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrea Tall, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Mahlyah Sao was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
