Football Recap: Abel Anaya's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Ottawa over Zeeland West + How To Watch

West Ottawa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 28-24 heartbreaker at the hands of the Zeeland West Dux. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Dux are ranked 20th).

West Ottawa lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Abel Anaya, who threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 37 yards. West Ottawa's leading receiver Ron Ferguson was Anaya's top target yet again, picking up 90 receiving yards and one score.

West Ottawa's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Zeeland West, the victory (which was their 11th in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 2-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West Ottawa will square off against Grandville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The game will give the Panthers their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Zeeland West, they will challenge Whitehall at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
