The Gilroy Mustangs will venture away from home to face off against the Ann Sobrato Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilroy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
Gilroy's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They came out on top against Leland by a score of 5-0.
Not much got past Stella Rhodas, who gave up just a hit to keep Leland off the board.
On the hitting side, Dani Wilson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Bam Mendoza, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Gilroy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leland only managed two hits.
Ann Sobrato never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Notre Dame on Saturday. They blew past the Regents 12-0.
Sam Zimmerman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zoe Rodriguez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Alyssa Nava also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Ann Sobrato now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Gilroy, their record is now 15-6.
Ann Sobrato's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Gilroy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Ann Sobrato, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Gilroy keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
Everything went Gilroy's way against Ann Sobrato when the teams last played back in March, as Gilroy made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
