Basketball Recap: Rye Takes a Loss

Rye lost against Walter Panas back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Rye Garnets lost to the Walter Panas Panthers on the road by a 73-54 margin. While losing is never fun, the Garnets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while the Panthers are ranked ninth).

Walter Panas got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sofia Tavarez out in front who went 10-for-19 en route to 22 points along with five assists and three steals. Tavarez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Cadence Nicholas was another key player, putting up 14 points in addition to eight steals and six boards.

Rye's defeat dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Walter Panas, their victory was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-1.

Looking ahead, Rye will square off against Harrison at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Walter Panas, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-36 win against Somers on the 12th.
