Baseball Game Preview: Big Sandy Wildcats vs. Hemphill Hornets

The Big Sandy Wildcats will be taking part in a tournament against the Hemphill Hornets at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Big Sandy will be strutting in after a victory while Hemphill will be coming in after a defeat.

It was a proper cat-fight when Big Sandy duked it out with West Sabine on Thursday. Big Sandy came out on top against West Sabine by a score of 6-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Gus Hardy and Daniel Barker did most of the damage at the plate: Hardy scored two runs while going 1-for-1, while Barker got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI. Those three RBI gave Barker a new career-high.

Big Sandy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .609. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Sabine only posted an OBP of .421.

Meanwhile, Hemphill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Warren, falling 21-0.

Big Sandy pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Hemphill, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Big Sandy came out on top in a nail-biter against Hemphill when the teams last played back in March of 2022, sneaking past 6-5. Does Big Sandy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hemphill turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
