Recap: East Palestine Bulldogs vs. Chaney Cowboys

The East Palestine Bulldogs struggled with offensive rebounds on Saturday (the Chaney Cowboys had 19 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. East Palestine received a tough blow as they fell 56-39 to Chaney. East Palestine lost against Chaney in their previous head to head on December 2nd, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 56-29 score last time.

East Palestine lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Leila Martin, who scored ten points along with five assists. Martin scored a full 25.6% of East Palestine's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Andre, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds.

Chaney's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alyssa Brown, who scored 25 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. The matchup was Brown's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alexandria Pete, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and six steals.

East Palestine's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Chaney, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Palestine will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on United at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. United will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Chaney, they will stay at home for another game and welcome McKinley at 12:30 p.m. on December 30th.
