Basketball Recap: North Valleys Takes a Loss

After flying high against Sparks last Friday, North Valleys came back down to earth. The North Valleys Panthers fell 51-38 to the Fernley Vaqueros on Monday. The matchup marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why North Valleys lost, don't look at Joshua Collins. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 13 en route to 14 points and five boards. Isaiah White was another key player, putting up eight points.

Even though they lost, North Valleys smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Leading Fernley to victory were Bryce Dunagan-Stephens and Nolan Berreman. Dunagan-Stephens posted 19 points and four steals, while Berreman went 6 of 12 on his way to 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Berreman a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Nate Adams, who put up four points.

North Valleys' defeat dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Fernley, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

North Valleys wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 62-55 loss against South Tahoe on the 29th. As for Fernley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-42 win against Elko on the 31st.
