Baseball Recap: Wood-Ridge Blue Devils vs. Garfield Boilermakers
While Wood-Ridge's victory against Garfield wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Blue Devils skirted past the Boilermakers 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Boilermakers: they've now won seven in a row.
Jack Caprio made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Wood-Ridge is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. Caprio was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other pitching news, Devin Gravina tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
Back at the plate, Jake Wall was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jared Montoya, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases.

As for Garfield, they will face off against Secaucus at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Boilermakers are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
