Basketball Recap: Central Mountain Comes Up Short

Central Mountain was the 74-68 winner over Tyrone when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Central Mountain Wildcats fell just short of the Tyrone Golden Eagles by a score of 70-67 on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 401st, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 101st).

When it comes to explaining why Central Mountain lost, don't look at Hunter Hoy. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Mahoney, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 12 points in addition to six boards and four blocks.

Central Mountain's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-11. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for Tyrone, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-3.

Central Mountain has already played their next matchup (against Midd-West), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Tyrone will face off against Penns Valley Area at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
