Football Recap: Leesburg Keeps Gainesville's Under Pressure

Leesburg won the last time they faced Gainesville and Jacob Kinsy did his part to make sure it happened again. The Yellow Jackets walked away with a 17-7 victory over the Hurricanes on Thursday thanks in part to Kinsy, who threw for 107 yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 53 yards on only six carries. His passing game has become a key predictor of Leesburg's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Leesburg's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Brennan Henderson, Tra'Ron Hanberry, and Anthony Wine, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Gainesville's side was Eljiah McGhee, who forced one fumble and made nine total tackles (1.0 for loss).

The win made it two in a row for Leesburg and bumps their season record up to 4-3. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 21 points in those games. As for Gainesville, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Coming up, Leesburg will venture away from home to challenge Lyman at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. The Yellow Jackets will be up against the Greyhounds' rather soft defense (which has allowed 60.33 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Gainesville, they will welcome Williston at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Devils' defense has only allowed 14 points per game this season, so the Hurricanes' offense will have their work cut out for them.
