Softball Recap: Stryker Panthers vs. Pettisville Blackbirds

Stryker had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-10 to make it seven. They lost 27-2 to the Pettisville Blackbirds. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blackbirds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 24-3 two weeks ago.

Tayegen Deming was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Pettisville, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games.

On Pettisville's side, Macy Hoylman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hoylman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Olivia Miller was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with five runs and two RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Kendyl Davis also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Coming up, Stryker will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Gorham Fayette at 5:00 p.m. As for Pettisville, they will square off against Hilltop at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cadets will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Blackbirds surely won't give up without a fight.
