Basketball Game Preview: Gaston Christian Eagles vs. SouthLake Christian Academy Eagles

The Gaston Christian Eagles will head out on the road to take on the SouthLake Christian Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Gaston Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.

Last Tuesday, Gaston Christian was able to grind out a solid win over Westminster Catawba Christian, taking the game 61-48. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 17th in North Carolina, while the Indians are ranked 206th in South Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Cameron Newman and Rilpuou Mabor Marier were among the main playmakers for Gaston Christian as the former went 7 for 12 en route to 19 points and eight assists and the latter dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds. What's more, Mabor Marier also racked up three steals, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alessandro Luparia, who posted 11 points.

Meanwhile, SouthLake Christian Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Gaston Day on Tuesday and fell 46-44.

Gaston Christian is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 20 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.1 points per game. As for SouthLake Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-14.

Gaston Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against SouthLake Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, sneaking past 61-58. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gaston Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
