Softball Recap: Desert View Comes Up Short

Desert View was the 11-1 winner over Rincon/University when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Desert View Jaguars fell 12-8 to the Rincon/University Rangers on Wednesday. Even though they lost, the Jaguars' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.2 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Leia Switzer and Mariah Rodriguez did some serious damage despite the final result: Switzer went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. The dominant performance gave Switzer a new career-high in hits. Arizley Florez was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one RBI.

Desert View dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Rincon/University, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-6.

Coming up, Desert View will look to defend their home field on Friday against Bisbee at 4:30 p.m. As for Rincon/University, they will take on Tanque Verde at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tanque Verde is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
