Basketball Recap: Tyler Backman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Norton over Thomas More Prep-Marian

Norton was the 48-40 winner over Thomas More Prep-Marian when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Norton Bluejays fell 56-46 to the Thomas More Prep-Marian Monarchs on Friday.

Norton lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tyler Backman, who posted ten points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyce Melvin, who went 5-for-11 on his way to 12 points.

Norton's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 9-1 and their overall record down to 15-5. As for Thomas More Prep-Marian, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season.

Norton will challenge Lyons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Thomas More Prep-Marian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
