Basketball Recap: South Johnston's Luck Changes for the Better on Wednesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Hunt, South Johnston was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 44-41 win over the Southern Wayne Saints. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since January 19, 2024.

Several Saints players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nevaeh Hines-Bass, who went 7 for 16 en route to 18 points. The matchup was Hines-Bass' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Azariah Jordan, who posted seven points and three steals.

South Johnston moved to 3-10 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Southern Wayne, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

South Johnston will face off against East Wake at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Southern Wayne, they will square off against Fike at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Fike will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something Southern Wayne surely won't give up without a fight.
