Baseball Recap: Ashland Hornets vs. Southern Aroostook Warriors
Ashland had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-5 to make it nine. They lost 19-5 to the Southern Aroostook Warriors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hornets of the 9-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.
As for Southern Aroostook, the victory got them back to even at 4-4. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Southern Aroostook's part, Ethan Collier made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Collier was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Southern Aroostook is 2-1 when Collier posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Jakoby Porter was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elliot Lee, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Coincidentally, Ashland and Southern Aroostook will both be playing Central Aroostook the next time they take the field. The Warriors will head out to face the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Hornets will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
