Baseball Recap: Southern Academy Extends Winning Streak to Five

Southern Academy waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Monroe Academy Volunteers with a sharp 10-2 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Brayden Hennigan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Drew Rogers, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Walt Etheridge, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one double.

Rogers wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Southern Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive contests.

Southern Academy pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Monroe Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Southern Academy will challenge North River Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Monroe Academy, they will take on Fort Dale Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
