Gateway is 0-10 against St. Cloud since February of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Gateway is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Gateway proved they can win big on Friday (they won by ten) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past Tohopekaliga 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since April 12, 2024.
Diego Vazqueztell was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Eddie Lopez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, while St. Cloud put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Poinciana. The Bulldogs blew past the Eagles 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won ten games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Nate Muniz looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Luis Ecarri and Cole Davis did most of the damage at the plate: Ecarri scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Davis went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Drew Kelley, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.
St. Cloud always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
St. Cloud pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Gateway, their record is now 10-7.
Both Gateway and St. Cloud just can't seem to miss. The Panthers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like St. Cloud struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gateway might still be hurting after the 20-4 loss they got from St. Cloud when the teams last played back in February. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
