Football Game Preview: Doral Academy Firebirds vs. Mater Academy Charter Lions

The Doral Academy Firebirds will head out to face off against the Mater Academy Charter Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a six-game winning streak alive.

Doral Academy saw some tournament action on Monday. They breezed past Pinecrest Prep to the tune of 40-6. The Firebirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 21 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Mater Academy Charter got themselves on the board against Downtown Doral on Tuesday, but Downtown Doral never followed suit. They blew past the Dolphins 27-0. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 70th, while the Dolphins are ranked 270th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mater Academy Charter pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.3 points on average this season. As for Doral Academy, their record is now 7-1.

Doral Academy came up short against Mater Academy Charter in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 12-6. Can the Firebirds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
