Softball Recap: Archbishop Mccarthy Takes Down Somerset Academy in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Archbishop McCarthy had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past the Somerset Academy Panthers 12-2 on Monday. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Sienna Garcia was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Garcia was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, Archbishop McCarthy got a massive performance out of Ava Schneider, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs Schneider has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Varona, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Archbishop McCarthy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Somerset Academy only posted an OBP of .280.

Archbishop McCarthy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Somerset Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-12-1.

As of now, neither Archbishop McCarthy nor the Panthers have any future games scheduled.
