After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Memorial, Elida was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 49-34 win over the Van Wert Cougars. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 35-14 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Despite the loss, Van Wert still got an impressive performance from Briston Wise, who rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns. Wise is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 106 every time he's taken the field this season. A healthy portion of Wise's aerial production (80 yards to be exact) went to Micah Cowan, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Elida's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-8. As for Van Wert, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-6 record.
Elida will take on Shelby at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shelby will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Elida surely won't give up without a fight. Van Wert does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
