Softball Recap: Make It Seven in a Row for Portola

Portola waltzed into their game on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Hamilton Braves. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Braves, too.

Ellie Ferris spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaleyah Sigala, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Genesis Gabriel-Cano, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Portola's victory bumped their record up to 17-1. As for Hamilton, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 10-5 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Portola beat the Braves by a score of 14-4 later that day.
