Basketball Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Comes Up Short

Mater Dei Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They fell 63-50 to the Victory Christian Academy Knights. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 387th, while the Knights are ranked 176th).

Victory Christian Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jayden Gray out in front who posted 14 points and three steals. Gray is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Angel Ochoa was another key player, putting up 18 points.

Mater Dei Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 7-17. As for Victory Christian Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-12.

Coming up, Mater Dei Catholic will square off against Eastlake at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mater Dei Catholic is facing Eastlake at the right time seeing as Eastlake is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Victory Christian Academy, they have already played their next contest, a 62-52 win against Sage Creek on the 8th.
