Basketball Recap: Terrence Smith commands the offense for Thoroughbreds win

Basketball Recap: South Aiken Thoroughbreds vs. Airport Eagles

The South Aiken Thoroughbreds came into Tuesday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 65-56 win over Airport on Tuesday. The win was just what South Aiken needed coming off of a 78-49 defeat in their prior game.

South Aiken's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Terrence Smith, who scored 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ladontae Felton, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.

Airport lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Anthony Rivers, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Rivers pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Casey Duncan, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Airport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Aiken only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.

South Aiken's win bumped their record up to 5-18. As for Airport, they dropped their record down to 7-16 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Aiken will take on the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Midland Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully the Thoroughbreds like a good challenge. As for Airport, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Yellow Jackets at 8:30 p.m. North Augusta is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
