Football Recap: Gore Comes Up Short at Home Against Wilburton

Gore unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost to the Wilburton Diggers at home by a 14-0 margin on Friday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Diggers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Jason Wilkett was nothing short of spectacular for Wilburton: he rushed for 234 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per carry. Wilkett really tore up the turf during one magnificent 82-yard run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gore is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will take on Keys at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wilburton, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Hartshorne at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th.
