Football Game Preview: Athens Wildcats vs. Muncy Indians

The Athens Wildcats will face off against the Muncy Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Athens' favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.

On Saturday, Athens humbled Wyalusing Valley with a 56-21 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won six matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Muncy's game on Friday was all tied up 7-7 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell 28-20 to South Williamsport.

Athens will need to focus on slowing down Andrew Walters, one of several Muncy players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 221 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 44 yards and one score. Another player making a difference was Gavin Barrows, who picked up 90 receiving yards and one TD.

Muncy's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Athens, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Athens took a serious blow against Muncy in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 63-26. Thankfully for the Wildcats, Austin Johnson (who rushed for 192 yards and three scores on only ten carries, and also picked up 86 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time.
