Basketball Recap: Ollie Higgins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Brewer over Hampden

Brewer lost against Hampden back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Brewer Witches took a 59-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hampden Broncos. The Witches' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Several Witches players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ollie Higgins, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Higgins has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Owen Fullerton, who went 5 of 10 en route to 14 points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Brewer was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Brewer's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Hampden, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

Brewer and Hampden should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Maine Rankings. Brewer will square off against Nokomis at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 73 places (17 vs. 90). Meanwhile, Hampden (ranked 26th) will meet Bangor (ranked 100th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
