Covington Catholic dropped down to 10-6 on Saturday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Colonels have suffered since May 1, 2025.

As for Newport Central Catholic, they moved to 5-7 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since March 24th.

For Newport Central Catholic's part, Parker Hurtt was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Hurtt posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Jon Meyer was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025. Mario League also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
