Softball Recap: Platt Comes Up Short

Platt had lost six straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-17 to make it seven. They came up short against the Maloney Spartans, falling 17-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Panthers of the 18-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Maloney, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

For Maloney's part, Stella Cicero was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Cicero has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Remi Rosado was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Oliviah Garcia-Matyka was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Platt is set to take on their familiar foe Wethersfield at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Maloney will face off against rival Middletown at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
