Preview: Chillicothe Hornets vs. Benton Cardinals
Chillicothe is 2-8 against the Cardinals since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Chillicothe Hornets will head out on the road to take on the Benton Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. Chillicothe will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Last Monday, Chillicothe faced the Warriors in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Chillicothe snuck past the Warriors with a 41-36 win.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chillicothe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kayanna Cranmer, who scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Liz Oliver, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Benton scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Cameron 77-26 on the road. That looming 77-26 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Benton yet this season.
Chillicothe's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1. As for Benton, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Chillicothe came up short against the Cardinals in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, falling 50-39. Can Chillicothe avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
