Basketball Recap: Liberty Red Devils vs. High Point Academy Grizzlies
Liberty managed to keep up with High Point Academy until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Liberty Red Devils lost 71-48 to the High Point Academy Grizzlies. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 27th).
Despite the loss, Liberty still got an impressive performance from Logan Smith, who went 5-for-10 en route to 13 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kendrick Jackson, who posted nine points and six boards.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead High Point Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaden McNeil, who put up ten points along with five assists and five steals. McNeil is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. Jerry Jones was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds.
Liberty has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 14 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for High Point Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 21-3.
Liberty wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-49 win against Brashier Middle College Charter on the 11th. As for High Point Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 88-73 victory against Landrum on the 11th.
