Basketball Recap: Leah Smith Key Part of a Team Effort in Vikings Win

Broadwater Academy won the last time they faced Portsmouth Christian and things went their way on Friday too. The Broadwater Academy Vikings strolled past the Portsmouth Christian Patriots with points to spare, taking the game 49-32. The Vikings pushed the score to 37-16 by the end of the third, a deficit the Patriots cut but never quite recovered from.

Broadwater Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Leah Smith led the charge by putting up nine points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. Smith has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last three times she's played. Elana Hickman also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Broadwater Academy now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Portsmouth Christian, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-10.
