Basketball Game Preview: Montgomery County Indians vs. Powell County Pirates

The Montgomery County Indians will challenge the Powell County Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Montgomery County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine games.

Last Saturday, Montgomery County didn't have too much trouble with Lexington Catholic as they won 69-54.

Montgomery County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Andrew Terry, who posted seven points along with 14 boards and six assists. The dominant performance also gave Terry a new career-high in blocks (four). Luke Fawns was another key player, going 6 for 9 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds.

Terry wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Montgomery County was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Powell County unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 58-57 to Estill County. While the Pirates didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Engineers 18-12 in the first quarter.

Montgomery County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Powell County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.

Montgomery County and Powell County were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in December of 2024, but Montgomery County came up empty-handed after a 65-64 defeat.
