Baseball Recap: Avoca Central's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

Avoca Central dropped their record down to 6-4 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Naples Big Green Machines. The Tigers were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matches prior), but the Big Green Machines' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Naples, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-4. Five seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Naples' part, Hunter Jacoby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. Jacoby also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Big Green Machines are 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-3 otherwise.

At the plate, Naples' win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Grady Grove, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Another was Ollie Bruen, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avoca Central will challenge Campbell-Savona at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Naples, they will take on Honeoye at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
