Baseball Game Preview: Roxbury Latin Foxes vs. St. George's Dragons

Roxbury Latin is a perfect 5-0 against St. George since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Foxes will head out to take on the Dragons at 2:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Roxbury Latin has six straight victories, St. George's has 19 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Roxbury Latin barely beat St. Mark's the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Foxes blew past the Lions 11-1 on Wednesday. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Foxes this season.

Roxbury Latin got a great performance from James Gibbons as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Gibbons has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Roxbury Latin let Liam Russell and Sam Seaton run wild. Russell went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Seaton went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Russell a new career-high. Bryce Ketchen also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Roxbury Latin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, St. George's came up short against Lawrence Academy on Thursday and fell 6-1.

St. George's saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was TJ Broom, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double.

Roxbury Latin's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for St. George's, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.

Roxbury Latin took their win against St. George's when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Foxes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
