League recap: Hattiesburg enters state Top 25

6A Region 4 recap October 22, 2013

Hattiesburg was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after falling to Gulfport. The Tigers came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.

Adding to the longest winning streak in 6A Region 4 this week, the Admirals beat Hattiesburg 50-43. The victory was the sixth in a row for Gulfport.

Thad Miller threw for 336 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was 25-45 with 2 interceptions.

Aikeem Coleman was a key player and the best on defense this week as Tony Vance's team fell to Eddie Pierce's team. He grabbed 2 sacks.

Tyler Polk was a beast in the backfield as St. Martin topped Biloxi.

Polk was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 244 yards on 32 carries as the Yellowjackets lost to the Admirals. Tyheem Wheldy also contributed to the rushing game with 113 yards on the ground.

Gulfport's Miller and Jevon Floyd have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Miller has thrown for 2,131 yards this season, while Floyd has 52 catches for 770 yards. Polk from St. Martin leads the league in rushing with 1,299 yards.

The marquee game in 6A Region 4 this week will be the clash between D'Iberville and the Admirals. The Warriors enters the game ranked 23rd in the state, while Gulfport ranks 12th.

Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Eddie Whitehead's team takes on Ocean Springs. The Yellowjackets' offense has recorded 321 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Greyhounds have permitted only 101 on the year.

Hancock fell to D'Iberville 39-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Shane Ladner ran for 35 yards and caught 2 passes for 12 yards in the loss.
