Softball Recap: Elba Takes a Loss

If Elba was riding high fresh off their 21-2 takedown of Georgiana on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Elba Tigers fell just short of the Geneva County Bulldogs by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2021.

Ayrika Caldwell put in work while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero hits, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two triples. That's the most triples she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Ana Caldwell made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three doubles, and one run. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.

Elba now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Geneva County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Elba Tigers take on Wicksburg Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Elba is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Geneva County, they will take on New Brockton in a tournament on Saturday.
