Baseball Recap: Porter Cowboys vs. Weslaco East Wildcats

Porter extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-14 in the process. They lost 11-4 to the Weslaco East Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 on Tuesday.

Aaron Franco made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Josh Escobedo also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

As for Weslaco East, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-5. Considering they have won ten contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Weslaco East's side, Antonio Solis made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Solis was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Weslaco East got a massive performance out of Brian Perez, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most hits Perez has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was James Abrego, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.

Porter has already played their next match, a 10-0 loss against Harlingen South on the 15th. As for Weslaco East, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 13-0 victory against Donna North on the 15th.
