Football Game Preview: North Eugene Highlanders vs. Churchill Lancers

North Eugene hasn't had much luck against Churchill recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Highlanders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lancers at 7:00 p.m. Churchill took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on North Eugene, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, North Eugene won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Roseburg 28-27.

D'Mariyae Ireland was his usual excellent self, throwing for 192 yards and three TDs while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 63 yards and one score. His passing game has become a key predictor of North Eugene's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Riley Whitwood, who rushed for 151 yards while picking up 8.9 yards per carry.

Meanwhile, Churchill scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They and Crater were almost perfectly matched up, but the Lancers suffered a 37-36 loss.

North Eugene pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.5 points over those games. As for Churchill, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2.
