Recap: Fontana Steelers vs. San Gorgonio Spartans

The Fontana Steelers fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the San Gorgonio Spartans on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Spartans 27-21. Fontana has struggled against San Gorgonio recently, as their match on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Several Steelers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rashawn Williams, who rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown. Ruben Camacho was another key contributor, rushing for 15 yards and two touchdowns.

San Gorgonio can attribute much of their success to Dillon Carolina, who rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Jaevin Sawyer was in the mix too, providing San Gorgonio with two touchdowns.

San Gorgonio's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Anthony Rucker and Albert Lara who racked up four sacks between them.

Fontana's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Bloomington (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66.7% over those games). As for San Gorgonio, the victory was the fourth in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.

Fontana will be playing in front of their home fans against Arroyo Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Arroyo Valley and Fontana are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. As for San Gorgonio, they will head out on the road to face off against Bloomington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bloomington will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
