Canfield is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Ursuline is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Cardinals will host the Fighting Irish at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Canfield was handed a seven-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Austintown-Fitch.
Anthony Groner made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Canfield is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-9 otherwise. Groner was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ryan Weibling was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Dylan Mancini was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Ursuline ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past South Range 5-4.
Like Canfield, Ursuline also got a great game from a two-way player: Anthony Triveri. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Triveri has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one run.
Triveri wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joe Balog, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Ursuline has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Canfield, their victory bumped their record up to 13-9.
Canfield came up short against Ursuline in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 6-1. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
