Baseball Recap: Dalhart Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Dalhart ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the River Road Wildcats, sneaking past 8-7. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Kevin Rios made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Dalhart is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 5-8 otherwise. Rios was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Talon Garcia, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Dalhart is undefeated when Garcia posts two or more runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Kyler Read also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

The win got Dalhart back to even at 8-8. As for River Road, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Dalhart is set to challenge their familiar foe Childress at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, River Road will take on rival Bushland at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
