South Shore had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-9 to make it four. They lost 23-10 to the Washburn Castle Guards. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Castle Guards this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-3 on Tuesday.
Nathaniel Spuhler made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Kaden Bryant was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Washburn, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2. Considering they have won five matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
On Washburn's side, Greyson St.Arnold made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. St.Arnold has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Washburn got a massive performance out of Henry Means, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. That triple was Means' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brodi A, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Looking ahead, South Shore will head out on the road to square off against Bayfield at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals are facing the Trollers at the right time seeing as the Trollers are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Washburn, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Chequamegon at 4:30 p.m.
